The iconic frontman of Squeeze is performing in Barnsley
Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze frontman will be performing at The Civic this month.
"stuffed with ludicrously catchy melodies" Mojo Magazine
It was 1973 when Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford first formed the band that would that would see them dubbed “The New Lennon and McCartney”. 45 years later they continue to tour in Squeeze, together as a duo, or as solo performers.
As half of the iconic songwriter team, Glenn Tilbrook has written some of the most enduring pop classics of the '80s UK New Wave invasion with such global hits as Tempted and Pulling Mussels (From the Shell). With more recent performances at Coachella and on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Live from the Artist’s Den, Squeeze has proven itself to be relevant and enduring as new generations of fans discover the band's incredible songbook.
In his solo career, Tilbrook is not one to rest on his laurels and he’s back - ducking and diving, bobbing and weaving. His latest album, Happy Trails is inventive, witty and stuffed with a twinkling treasure trove of brand-new melodies, proving that the man's musicality and sense of craft are as fresh and energized as ever. The details in his music make it even more delightful. Beside Tilbrook on masterly bass and guitar (plus iPad keys and "atmospherics"), there are kazoos, sitar, Indian harmonium, ukuleles, bongos, Chinese drums and a full string arrangement by Lucy Shaw.
Glenn Tilbrooks solo shows have continued to rise in popularity with his 2016 tour selling out all but a couple of shows. The reasons for this are a combination of a consummately professional, yet distinctly personal performance, the familiarity of those wonderful Squeeze songs – both new and old, and the occasional spontaneous interpretation of a respected song by another artist.
“as entertaining as ever… and never fails to provide value for money. Swapping between acoustic and electric guitars it’s criminal just how overlooked his talent as a guitarist is.” The Northern Echo
Limited tickets still available for this popular show.
