The Civic to showcase the best in theatre and circus from around Europe

An exciting showcase of theatre, mask and circus from Birmingham’s BE FESTIVAL comes to Barnsley

Three delicious samples of circus, theatre and mask fresh from the international festival of performing arts: BE FESTIVAL are to be performed in one evening.

"It is difficult to imagine a more rewarding and enjoyable night out" What’s On Stage

BE FESTIVAL began in 2009 to build a European festival community in the heart of Birmingham. As the festival enters its ninth year, it continues its dedication to bringing a mix of new and emerging performers – from all around the continent -  to present their work to UK/Birmingham audiences. The festival is a weeklong showcase of a vibrant feast of theatre, dance, circus, visual arts, comedy, food and music, debates and workshops. Now it bring it’s top acts to Barnsley for one night only.

This spring the festival packs up three of the favourite shows from their summer festival, and sends them out on a UK tour. This year there are three performances from Spain, France/Portugal and the UK coming to the stage in Barnsley. Audiences will be treated to three different 30-minute performances in one delightful show.

“A bonanza of European performance” The Stage

First up is the moving story of a cranky old couple at odds with each other until the sudden onset of Alzheimer’s disease forces them to find ways to remember what once joined them together.

Next a delightful 30 minutes of circus in which Bristol based clown Robin Dale will be (literally) tripping his way through his new show What Does Stuff Do? a part guide, part motivational speech on juggling featuring ping pong and water display.

Lastly, the possibilities of language are unpacked in 30 minutes of theatre. Starting with the language of birds and incorporating Hitchcock’s The Birds, this debut performance plays upon the (mis)interpretation, with amusing results.

“Ground-breaking new theatre from across Europe” The Guardian

The Best of BE FESTIVAL is a fantastic night out, with 3 performances for the price of one, the chance to see the spirit of the festival and celebrate the talent and variety of performers from around the world. At the end of the night, there will be an opportunity for audience members to chat to the performers with an informal Q & A discussion.

Best of BE FESTIVAL is at The Civic, Barnsley on Thursday 8 March at 7:30pm. Tickets are £12 and £10 conc
