The Civic and Red Ladder bring a show about boxing to Jump Club
This is a painfully funny and gutsy story about what people will do to achieve glory.
“If you have to fight for a ticket to see Glory, it’s well worth the effort.” David Upton, British Theatre Guide
From Nick Ahed, the writer of Partition and the award-winning The Chef Show, the punchy new play Glory takes you inside the wrestling ring.
Jim ‘Glorious’ Glory used to be somebody. In the heyday of British wrestling, he was a colossus. Now his empire has crumbled. Enter Dan, Ben and Sami. Three men wrestling with demons, life and each other. Through Dan, Ben and Sami, Jim catches a glimpse of resurrection; a chance to re-establish his great name and his decaying gym. But do the three men want to wrestle and restore Jim’s glory? Or do they have a different fight in mind?
“It is exhilarating to watch.” Wendy Pratt, The Stage
Glory is part of the Civic on Tour programme in partnership with Red Ladder which has been a huge success over the last few years touring high quality and hard-hitting theatre to local and rural venues. With their Civic on Tour programme, The Civic are continuing to support the Leeds theatre company in putting productions in the Barnsley area, at affordable prices.
Red Ladder exists to create theatre about and around human struggle. Now celebrating five decades as one of the UK’s longest running radical theatre companies Red Ladder are acknowledged as one of Britain’s leading national touring companies they produce new theatre and contribute to social change and global justice.
“For fifty years Red Ladder Theatre Company has responded to the changing world… at our core is a commitment to telling the stories of working class, reflecting unheard voices on our stages and making theatre that is relevant to ordinary people.” Rod Dixon, Artistic Director
The performance of Glory will be at Jump Club this March for just £4. At these low prices, there’s no excuse to miss on a great theatre experience.
