Next Generation of Theatre Makers in Barnsley
Last month The Civic and Manic Chord Theatre came together this summer to provide a chance for creative 16-18 year olds to become company members of Generate: Barnsley.
Over two weeks Generate: Barnsley grew into an established group of young theatre makers from the local area, who created a show exploring contemporary ideas and issues important to them. Working alongside Manic Chord the Generate: Barnsley company presented the culmination of two weeks work in a celebration of new, devised and physical performance. It is safe to say that the next generation of theatre makers will carry on bringing innotive work to our stages.
Founded in 2012, Manic Chord is a Leeds based company that creates contemporary theatre through lyrical and physical languages. The company was formed with the intention of continuing to work in a collective and playful manner inspired by their studies at the University of Leeds. The company has a highly energetic, physical, and competitive style with an emphasis on story telly and visually stunning work. Their recent project Generate has seen them working with 16-18 year olds to encourage them to create their own ideas and turn them into a fully produced reality.
After a successful performance at The Civic, we’d like to wish Generate: Barnsley the very best for the future and we look forward to them returning with more exciting work to bring to the stage.
