Civic Curator Set To Curate Hull City of Culture 2017
The Civic bids a temporary farewell to curator David Sinclair as he goes to join the producing team for Hull City of Culture 2017.
Hull was announced the winner of UK City of Culture 2017 in 2013. The award is given every four years to a city that demonstrates the belief in the transformational power of culture. The arts and cultural programme for the year will celebrate the unique character of the city, its people, history and geography. David is taking an 18 month secondment from the Gallery@ The Civic to lead on the visual arts programme and the opening of the new city centre Gallery. David’s secondment is a fantastic opportunity for him to develop his creative practice further and also opens up opportunities for longer term partnership working between Barnsley and Hull in the future.
In David’s absence, we are very happy to welcome Jason White who joins David’s team to oversee the delivery of the Gallery@ programme as Assistant Curator. Jason is well known in Barnsley for his passion for the arts and he joins us from Barnsley Museums Service where he has been a firm figure in the respected Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre.
‘We are proud to have David representing The Civic in Hull, pleased to welcome Jason to the team and excited for what the future holds through our connection with Hull.’ - Helen Ball, Chief Executive - The Civic
The Gallery at The Civic is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm. Admission is FREE.
