Christmas presents from The Civic
The Civic is giving culture vultures a festive treat offering every child who attends its show Jack Frost on the Christmas Eve performance a free ticket for its new family show, Stella. Around 175 children will get to see the new commission, Stella, for free next spring. Stella features projection and aerial circus in a story about a girl’s love of the stars, moon and space.
The initiative is part of a Christmas Advent Calendar giveaway with prizes from tickets to shows, signed prints, ice-creams and prosecco and free room hire for community groups.
The arts centre is also donating over 50 free children’s tickets throughout 2019 to charities and good causes, a scheme backed by the public.
Becki Tovey, Marketing Officer at The Civic, said: “We’ve had some very happy winners to date, and lovely feedback. It shows how much the community values the arts.”
The Civic is currently showing Jack Frost, a newly commissioned Christmas show featuring a community cast that is delighting Barnsley audiences, with performances selling out. The final show is this Christmas Eve.
The cast includes a group from Barnsley College who lend their voices and instruments to play live alongside the professional team. It stars Barnsley poet Ian McMillan.
Becki added: “Jack Frost is a really heartwarming play that carries the most important message of Christmas: a wonderful reminder of the importance of love, friendship and looking after each other. It’s the perfect fit for The Civic, which is very much the heart of the community. We have exciting plans for 2019 around working more closely with our local community with a new Community Engagement Officer delivering an exciting programme of outreach and volunteer opportunities.”
