A Spooky Story told to music at The Civic

A Thrilling tale comes to The Civic this winter.

Three chilling tales. Two ghostly performers. One thrilling night. Ghost Stories for Christmas!

"A gripping, ghostly tale." Leeds Living

Having already thrilled over 1,500 people in Leeds’ oldest church as part of Light Night and gone on to play many sold-out dates in their 2016 tour, gothic storytelling show The Book of Darkness & Light will bring their national Tour to Barnsley this Christmas.

“Legend has it that many years ago a book of terrifying tales was found. Now, you are invited to discover the secrets of The Book of Darkness & Light… if you dare.”

The Book of Darkness & Light is a new storytelling experience from writer Adam Z. Robinson and musician Ben Styles. Using a combination of original ghost stories and live violin music, the performances are spooky, mesmerising and charming. Each show also includes some short, local ghost stories and legends specific to the location. Dare you hear the spooky tales of Barnsley?

With the ancient book in hand, The Storyteller tells three chilling tales as The Musician fills the room with a beautiful, haunting score. The stories range from moving to macabre: In Plagued, a cruel politician gets his comeuppance when he returns home one wintery night. In Girl, Dancing an ageing stage star becomes jealous of her step-daughter’s fame, making a ghastly decision to get her out of the picture. In The Bonehouse, a historian comes face-to-face with the gruesome history of an abandoned village lock-up.

"...the music heightens the suspense in the room as [The Storyteller] draws the audience into his narrative web." Stagetalk Magazine

Brave the dark and join us for this spooky tale with a difference on 7 December at The Civic.

The Book of Darkness and Light is on Thursday 7 December 2017 at 7:30pm at The Civic, Barnsley
