[retreat] In a time where mass information suffocates the public, where fiction and nonfiction merges into a seeming less stream of human consumption - what is the truth?

[retreat] the Barnsley duo featuring Lyndon Scarfe (The Black Lamps // The Danse Society) and Sam Horton (Regional Creeps // The Shakamoto Investigation) have been working together for over 5 years creating noise soundscapes, field recordings and sonic noise assaults to guide you through a mental & physical journey of escapism. Now on the arrival of their debut album; a 50 minute long descent into noise, field recordings, euphoric brass, percussion, layers of spaced synths and broken dialogue that subtly creates a social commentary on current situations. You will feel familiarities, day-to-day organic repetition, while obscurities make you question your journey creating a unique transcendence into a retreat, out of reality.

On the record, there is special features from local artists / musicians who have assisted retreat. Sam Batley’s distinctive free-form dialogue on ‘One, One, One’ to Toria Garbutt’s dark ambiguous poetry in ‘Like Fingerprints’. Plus, brass players Isaac Crawford & Vladimir Vivionski help define the authentic dynamic of the tracks.

[retreat]’s debut album will be released physically and available for online streaming in November 2019 accompanied by a special headline show at The Old School Picture-house in Barnsley on the 23rd of November.

Support comes from Pulselovers, a project of Doncaster musician, Mat Handley. Along with fellow conspirators, Pulselovers can be heard skipping between tape loop experimentalism, melodic hauntology, ambient soundscapes, mototik minimalism and psychedelic folk with genre hopping abandon.

When playing live, there can be between one and four people on stage with instrumentation ranging from lone laptop to multiple synths, full band or just a few contact mics fed through guitar pedals. Notable gigs have been played in Hull (Humber Street Sesh), Lincoln (Weird Garden), Derby (Dubrek Studios), Sheffield (Access Space) and hometown, Doncaster (Cast Theatre).

Pulselovers music can be heard on several digital and physical releases on labels such as A Year In The Country, unMute, Bedroom Cassette Masters, The Active Listener and DEF as well as the self titled first album from 2016 and the recent vinyl debut ‘Cotswold Stone’ on Castles In Space.
