Arts Award

At The Civic, we are proud to be an Arts Award Supporter

As a Supporter, we provide activities for young people on the scheme to experience. The Arts Award scheme allows young people from the age of 5 years old up to the age of 25 years old to engage with and experience ‘the arts’, which could be any art form from fashion design, to theatre, to fine art and photography. Anyone can get involved, independently or through school, college or youth group.

As a theatre and art gallery, we have a range of shows, exhibitions and activities which young people can experience and get involved with, from watching a theatre show, to participating in a Q&A with an actor or designer, meeting our Artist In Residence or critiquing a contemporary art exhibition in Gallery@.

We have approved all of the activities at The Civic as Arts Award Opportunities, for Discovery and Explorer levels, and we're aiming to extend this offer over the next year to have more defined offers for young people taking their Bronze, Silver and Gold level Awards.

To get involved in Arts Award activities at The Civic, come along to a show, book onto a workshop, or find out what your Arts Award group are participating in. Have a look at the sections of our programme above to see what theatre, dance, music and cinema events are on, and what extra activities have been planned.

Send us an email at if you have any questions!

Publish a review on Arts Award Voice

Want to write a review of an arts or cultural event? Why not write about us on Arts Award Voice; a magazine for young people who love the arts.

Read Arts Award's advice on writing a good review for the web and of events. Then log in and post your review – here's some hints and tips

When you're ready to publish...

1. Grab The Civic's Supporter's Voice Tag by searching for our profile here. If you use our Voice Tag your review will pull through onto our profile page as well as showing up in Voice Reviews.

If you saw a live production, you also can use the Voice Tag for the company you saw eg DV8 Dance Theatre andthe location eg Southend Theatres.

2. Add a link to the Supporter's profile at the end of your review – we'll want to see it!

Here's an example of a review with the Voice Tag and a Supporter link

Make sure you include other tags too – what type of event did you go to? which art form? what Arts Award level is it suitable for ?

Finally - do post your review as quickly as possible so that it can encourage other people to go and see the event!
