Theatre Company Tell The Tale Of The Greek Monster We Thought We Knew

We are going to tell you a story;

One that is not often told;

The story of a woman who exacts her revenge on the men that destroyed her and the Gods that cursed her.

We are going to tell you the story of Medusa, the truth.

Following the success of Nosferatu (2015), innovative storytellers and theatre-makers Proper Job Theatre Company collaborate with award-winning Yorkshire writer Helen Mort to re-tell this classic myth from the point of view of Medusa, as the second part of the Monster Trilogy.

Helen Mort is one of the brightest stars in the sparkling new constellation of young British poetsCarol Ann Duffy.

Medusa is set to tour the UK and will be shown at The Civic in Barnsley on the 26 October.

Through dynamic movement and lyrical new writing, Proper Job’s Medusa sheds light on the softer side of the ‘monster’ we think we know.

Antony Clay, Rotherham Advisor commented, “Medusa has powerful themes relevant to our times”. He described Helen Mort as an “innovative and adventurous writer” and the piece as “hard-hitting”.

Theatre reviewer and blogger, Emma Gullon said the piece which combined “fantasy, music and drama” was a “modern, harrowing masterpiece”.

This powerful story has echoed throughout generations and through a contemporary setting we see how her story is still important and relevant today.

Medusa is at The Civic on Thursday 26 October at 7:30pm. Tickets are £12 full price and £10 concessions. Recommended for ages 16+
