Students Moved By Art At The Civic

Following on from the success of previous Moved By Art projects, Moved By Art Brass ReMade is an exciting multi-disciplinary arts project enthusing and engaging artists, young people, the local and wider community in appreciation, engagement, exploration, collaboration and creation of high quality mixed genre brass-related artwork and performance across South Yorkshire.

Moved By Art Brass ReMade took its inspiration from the highly acclaimed Cornelia Parker ‘Perpetual Canon’ exhibit curated by the Gallery @ The Civic in Barnsley as part of the Brassed Off exhibition in Autumn 2016, partnered by Charlotte Armitage and Wayne Sables Project.

Collaboratively supported by the Brass Bands England, South Yorkshire Music Services in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and Barnsley Brass, along with school groups from each of the four regions - MBA Brass ReMade is a truly collaborative project!

Moved By Art Brass ReMade was funded by Art Council England. With specially created musical score by composer Lucy Pankhurst, new brass instruments re-designed from old and built by instrument maker Paul Jefferies and performance poetry written and delivered by Yorkshire poet James Nash, this is a unique event, not to be missed!

Chief Executive of The Civic, Helen Ball is delighted with these growing schools partnerships: “It’s always a pleasure to work with schools and home educators, we ensure our educational programme benefits students’ learning through the arts, so we look forward to welcoming them again in the next academic year.”

Two matinee concerts will take place in an inflatable White Cube on SATURDAY 25 MARCH 2017 at 1pm & 3pm, with a ‘Have a Go’ workshop in between, at the beautifully landscaped Phoenix Park, Barrowfield Road, Thurnscoe, S63 0BD.
