About Us
At The Civic we like to showcase great performances and exhibitions, and we don't let our location or size stop us. We are proudly situated in Barnsley town centre and we feel its important that we bring to Barnsley performances and exhibitions that make a stop in South Yorkshire whilst touring larger towns and cities across the UK and the world.
The site of The Civic was originally opened as a public hall for the people of Barnsley, but the building has been home to almost every important institution within Barnsley. During its lifetime, it has been used as the town’s college, library, and was even the venue for the screening of the first talking film in the town.
