Allen Tod Architects

Allen Tod Architecture Limited were appointed by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in 2004 following the completed masterplan ‘Remaking Barnsley’ as part of the Renaissance Towns programme by Yorkshire Forward, to carry out a study into sustainable uses for The Civic.
 
They subsequently made a planning and listed building consent application for which consent was granted in November 2004. Allen Tod were then commissioned in early 2005 to develop the scheme through detail detail design and procurement to completion.

For this we employed a team of consultants; landscape architects Estell Warren, structural engineers Capita, service engineers SDA, quantity surveyors Bernard Williams Associates and fire engineers Buro Happold.

Of great importance to Allen Tod is their role as place makers who undsertand the importance of context as part of their craft, which they consider to be an essential part of any brief. This applies in particular to the regeneration of The Civic and Mandela Gardens.

David White Associates Ltd

David White Associates is very pleased to be providing project management services on the redevelopment of Barnsley's iconic building - the Civic Theatre - together with the formation of the Mandela Gardens. This Grade 2 listed structure and many of its original features are being preserved and enhanced with new extensions, ensuring the Victorian building is transformed into a vibrant centre with three floors of design and craft shops, an event centre and an exhibition area.


We deliver independent, dynamic consultancy experience on a best practice basis that counts, and with the committed determination to add 'best value' to every commission undertaken. This demonstrable ethos was an instrumental element in this appointment.

Our task en route to this end is to liaise closely with our client to provide full and continuous support in a partnered relationship to ensure targets are met. We relish our role, and are committed to our partnership with Barnsley MBC.
